Our First Achievements

  • Official Registration (2025): GDO received legal recognition from the Government of Somaliland, formalizing its work as a community development NGO.

  • Sanaag Climate Education Campaign: Engaged more than 1,000 citizens through awareness sessions on land restoration and water management.

  • Community Conservation Zones: Three community-managed areas were created to protect land and trees from deforestation.

  • Environmental Education: Teachers and youth groups trained to include climate topics in schools and community events.

Impact on the Ground: Target zones recorded an estimated 40% reduction in illegal tree cutting and improved local participation in conservation.

Planting Hope in Sanaag

In 2025, Amina joined GDO’s tree-planting campaign in her village. Together with other volunteers, they planted hundreds of seedlings across degraded hillsides. The effort united families, youth, and local elders — turning awareness into real action.

Today, the new saplings stand as a sign of hope and ownership.
